Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Nashua, NH

We Can’t Wait to Help!

When it comes to taking care of your child, it seems as though the questions you have may never end. Don’t worry – our team is always happy to answer them! On this page, you’ll find the answers to a few questions that our team members hear the most often. However, if your question is not answered below, just give us a call and we’ll do our best to help. We always want to make sure you have all of the knowledge you need to care for your little one’s budding smile.

When should I schedule my child’s first dental appointment?

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a child should attend their first dental visit by the time their first tooth appears or their first birthday – whichever comes first.

How often should my child visit the dentist?

We typically tell parents to bring their child in for a dental checkup and cleaning at least twice per year. These visits give our dentists the opportunity to spot early signs of cavities and other problems and stop them in their tracks. However, if your child is going through orthodontic treatment, they should visit us much more often – usually once every few weeks. At these appointments, we’ll make sure your child’s teeth are moving as they should.

When should my child first see an orthodontist?

We recommend children receive a complete orthodontic evaluation by the time they turn seven years old. However, we encourage you to schedule an orthodontic visit sooner if you notice that your little one’s teeth are crooked or crowded. Early intervention is the best way to keep their treatment as simple and easy as possible.

Will my child need to wear a retainer after they’re finished with braces?

Yes. Once braces are taken off, teeth naturally start to shift back to their original crooked positions. Retainers preserve the results of orthodontic treatment by ensuring teeth remain in their new, healthy state. In most cases, your child will have to start off by wearing the retainer pretty much 24/7, but they’ll be able to wear it less and less often as time goes by.

What should I do if I think my child has a cavity?

Has your son or daughter been complaining about a toothache? Have you noticed a dark spot on one of their teeth? If so, call our dental office promptly. The sooner our dentists can diagnose and treat a cavity, the easier the process will be overall!

I’m an adult. Do I have to wear metal braces to straighten my teeth?

Not necessarily! Countless adults have achieved straight smiles with Invisalign, an aesthetically superior solution that shifts teeth with clear plastic aligners instead of metal braces. As one of the most discreet options we provide, no one should even notice you’re wearing the trays unless you tell them! Plus, Invisalign treatment can fit into practically any lifestyle – the aligners are able to be removed when it’s time to eat, drink, brush, or floss.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

Regardless of the provider, our dental office welcomes all dental insurance plans. We can even file your claims for you and help you fully understand your benefits to make sure you’re making the most of your coverage. Give our dental office a call if you’d like to learn more about how we can use your plan and help you save on dental care.
